Accuracy is of vital importance for drone mapping and photogrammetry professionals.
Review Of Tofugu’s WaniKani
But with so many options out there, it's not always clear which one is the best. We've tested RTK vs non-RTK drones in different, real-world conditions to help you understand which is the best tool for you. When you fly a non-RTK drone with an onboard GPS receiver or a receiver along with the camera, camera positions are trilaterated from satellites so their positions are identified by several distance measurements. Normally, you can expect an inaccuracy of up to several meters, especially in Z directions, depending on the equipment quality and the satellite geometry.
The camera positions are calculated in real-time, referring to ground references, the locations of which are accurately measured for a long period of time. The calculation helps correct the camera positions up to two to three centimetres of accuracy, both horizontal and vertical. However, things do not always work perfectly. People working on site may encounter interrupted connections which interfere the real-time corrections for camera positions. The system gives float solutions or even gets back to standalone mode.
The camera positions are RTK-float, indicating a big uncertainty around the corrections. The accuracy will again be tens of centimetres for RTK-float, or even up to meters of accuracy as you would get from non-RTK flights.
In this case, you can perform the computation referring the ground reference afterward with a PPK drone. The whole system needs to support the communication with base stations or VRS and to includes post-processing features. It is also crucial to have a compatible image processing software, such as Pix4Dmapper, which takes into account different accuracies of individual camera position.
This article can serve as a prerequisite or a reference for those who are considering whether to buy a new drone or to stay with GCPs. To better investigate the performance, we did two separate flights: one with RTK mode and the other with standalone mode real-time corrections disabled or connection lost during flight over two different types of regions: crop fields and urban areas.
Both RTK flights and standalone flights of the same region followed the same configurations. We used GCPs to adjust the camera positions of standalone-mode flights, and the same set of check points to assess the accuracy of both modes. All projects were processed with Pix4Dmapperusing the default 3D Map template. While flying over a field, we can expect that the connection will not meet too many obstruction.
The result from RTK flight in the field is quite impressive. It gives around one-pixel 2. In standalone mode, we get 3. Once we applied a set of GCPs, the errors in Z greatly decreased. However, we also found that the distribution plays an extremely important role in this type of project. Here we also compare the accuracy when using GCPs in different allocation:.Ppsspp 2019
From the chart, we could see that by placing one more GCP in the middle of the field, the vertical accuracy improved from 65 cm to around 6. The error accumulates when it gets further from the GCPs and when there is a difficult region around.Menu Menu.

It's like online dating only even more depressing lol. I'll post something more detailed if I get off the ground using this dumb thing. If you're going to move to Japan, be very wary of putting yourself in a bubble of English-language stuff. It's very, very easy to do. I was in one for at least a full year - hell, I'm still kinda in one. Of course, it's also incredibly stressful to exist in the other language for long periods of time; some people have the mental fortitude required, others have to build up to it.
Without a thorough grasp of kanji, you will not make it very far. You want some new high tech gear, and a group of Sherpas? Then you want WaniKani. It helps you develop an identity for thousands of kanji, making words come to life. Imagine a system so effectively structured that you are spoon-fed all essential kanji necessary to assist you in reading any popular Japanese publication. A system that takes you on a 50 level journey to conquer 1, of the most highly used kanji and a total of 5, vocabulary words.
On this journey, the most highly prized weapons you can carry are your diligence, motivation, and self-determination.
Similar to one of my favorite learning tools, Remembering the Kanjiyou are trained to learn kanji through highly livid and detailed stories. A highly effective SRS system similar to Anki then organizes the kanji to present you daily reviews. These daily reviews vary in content and length, depending on your level of kanji mastery as you increase levels your daily reviews increase. WaniKani also pairs up kanji that you have previously learned to create new vocabulary words, enabling you to expand and strengthen your vocabulary.
This is an efficient process to get the most out of every kanji you learn. During your daily reviews you will be challenged with different kanji groupings; you willl quickly accumulate an abundance of new vocabulary words that will aid in your conquest over written language. Kanji groupings developed for each kanji you learn are implemented to help expand your vocabulary.
The system accommodates those who may have busy schedules. You can complete your reviews anywhere, just as long as your phone is within reach. An iPhone app has also recently been created for this program.
You guys are smart. Just stop doing RTK. Through constant exposure with that kanji. But you will learn them one at a time as you go through J-E sentences, J-J sentences, Native media and beyond.
While going through sentences, you are still learning the meaning and reading of every word that has that kanji. RTK just provides an association technique to make that process much smoother. But without it, you can still do the same thing. Sure, your recall rate, and review speed may be slower.🌸 My Daily Japanese Study Routine - 日本語 - WaniKani, Memrise, Japanese From Zero [Chrysantilus] 🌸
But not slower than if you avoid it altogether or force yourself to do something you hate. And as I mentioned in that post, that is exactly what I did. Yes, me. RTK never really caught my interest when I first started studying Japanese the fact that there was no efficient way to study it like there is today with Anki or other online electronic flash cards may have contributed to this.
But I did what I wanted to do at the time. I was at a good intermediate level I was proud of.
Real-Time Kinematic (RTK)
I knew loads of kanji, meanings, readings, and had an average ability to make guesses on unknown readings. But it was all just merely adequate.
So I took a break from adding new J-J sentences just continued with reviewskept the immersion going, but focused on completing RTK. And I was enjoying it. At an intermediate level, RTK was a smooth experience.
Since I already had seen most of the kanji in sentences and native exposure, they were easy to remember. And I had the ability to alter and adjust the deck to my liking which ultimately resulted in the Jalup RTK mod deck.
Do RTK/PPK drones give you better results than GCPs?
And my kanji ability thanked me for it. As I started up J-J again, I proceeded at a much faster pace, words clicked, I could read with more understanding, and I just finally got kanji. I felt that putting it at the beginning made the most sense. And doing it concurrently with J-E is to prevent kanji burnout.
But who knows? So lately I have been hearing how great the Heisig is and that it is arguably the best method for kanji how would WaniKani compare to Heisig? I did look at couple other threads they were similar but none really answered the question one wanted to do both other one already started Heisig before ect…. And WK provides tools to aid you in remember every single kanji and most of the vocabulary to boot. However, there are lots of resources that you can find online for readings, mnemonics and so on, if you really like.
It turns the WaniKani system on its head, teaching radicals and vocabulary alongside kanji, so you learn everything at once. Heisig is best if you want to focus on writing kanji, and understanding the meanings onlyfocusing on vocabulary and everything else at another time. Kodansha would be best if you want to control your own pace of study, or if you find the WK mnemonics a little silly for your taste. However, mnemonics are only provided for kanji, not vocabulary, which might be a factor for you as well.
Thank you all for answers I was just wondering because online ive seen a lot of flak for wanikani and everyone praising heisig so I was curious. If your goal is to learn random English keywords and not be able to read a single bit of Japanese, then use RTK.
If your goal is to actually learn Japanese, use something else. But you only need to look as far as the opposite pair vocab to see how limited that is. What are people trying to learn Kanji for to begin with? The second offering, is a wild guess on my part.
At least this late, my brain is turning into mush, been working on grad school application essay answers all evening. What you see are mainly company logos and products. To earn maximal profit from RTK, you have finish it, not just or something, like WaniKani, because it is not sorted by School Grades.
About how to study, instead of studying just keywords, make sure you know all aspects of Kanji, eventually meaning as in www. Kanji-in-the-wild learning pattern outside WaniKani. I mean that once you know a kanji they reuse that knowledge as soon as the kanji is used in another one instead of reusing the basic radicals.
Heisig and WaniKani WaniKani. Amazuu September 15,am 1. Visceral September 15,am 2.Both methods correct the location of drone mapping data and remove the need for GCPs, bringing absolute accuracy down to cm sub-inch range. However, when you factor in obstacles and environmental conditions common to aerial surveying, the difference between a PPK drone and an RTK drone becomes more important to understand. In fact, choosing the best correction method for your surveys will save you time and project costs.
But how do you know which is best? The answer can be found in learning about how each method works, including its inherent strengths and drawbacks. So why use RTK in the first place? Wingtra develops, produces and commercializes high precision VTOL drones that collect survey-grade aerial data.

RTK requires four constant communication lines to correct satellite location data: 1. It might seem nice to get corrected data during a flight. In the best case—where the link between base station and drone stays constant—RTK achieves the same absolute accuracy as PPK. Yet in all cases, PPK reliability is better. The answer is found in how it works. A PPK drone flies with an onboard GNSS PPK receiver that gathers data from satellites and logs it for retrieval after the flight Satellite data—by itself, and in any case—is error prone due to tropospheric delays, etc.
Data with absolute accuracy is then available for post processing into mapping survey results. PPK requires two constant communication lines to correct satellite location data: 1. When they do, the loss of lock lasts longer than just a moment. It takes time to reinitialize. And until it does, you lose correction data for that particular area of your drone survey. RTK vs. PPK overview.
Both PPK and RTK technology can correct satellite data down to cm sub-inch levels, and both methods depend on an on-board receiver like the high-end Septentrio WingtraOne PPK module pictured, but their fundamental differences include reliability and are worth considering.
RTK Pros. Correction complete immediately after flight Offers real-time, highly-accurate position of the drone Removes need for GCPs if the connections are all constant throughout a survey.Despite your familiarity with these acronyms, all three share a common ground in drone mapping. Being extremely accurate and staying on time is important when it comes to ensuring large job site projects are operating both efficiently and profitably.
This post is meant to help you explore the different options out there to achieve just that and more with drone mapping. Ground control points GCPs are points on the surface of the earth of a known location. GCPs are tied in during data processing to georeferenced images from a project and convert ground coordinates of the points to real world locations. To put it plainly, GCPs allow the survey drone to obtain accuracy down to a sub-centimeter level, which is very precise.
There is one caveat when using GCPs— laying them requires a decent amount of prep work it can take up to an entire day and a team of people. GPS correction technology enhances the quality of location data by using global position system receivers to produce precise, accurate data. Only recently has it been offered as an add-on to a survey drone for survey-grade photogrammetry.
Real Time Kinematic RTK is a GPS correction technology technique that provides real-time corrections to location data when the survey drone is capturing photos of a site. Post Processed Kinematic PPKanother GPS correction technology technique that works to correct location data, except in the cloud after the drone data has been captured and uploaded.
Basically, the main difference between the two is when this positional correcting takes place. Additionally, it creates smoother workflows because of that time that is shed. Thus prompts the big question — Which one should you choose? While both technologies are effective, we believe having a survey drone with a PPK attachment is the best route as when deciding between drone solutions that may have one or the other.
Both these technologies are very similar, however, PPK has a decisive advantage — because of its robustness and consistency. Firstly, PPK drones offers more flexibility in terms of the actual flight of the survey drone meaning you have more freedom of how and where the drone is deployed.
In contrast, RTK drones requires a very specific base station and other pieces of equipment that work together in order to process data in real-time. Secondly, a with PPK drone can refer to previous and future data relative to the current flight, which creates greater dependability. Having this ability ensures the drone is always on track with the flight. RTK drone has a higher chance of malfunctioning because it cannot retain old or new data to keep the current flight in check.
You might lose signal a couple times but gain it back quickly. Along with enhancements in time and product, there will also be a change in spirits of the team on the job site. Not having to spend a whole day laying several GCPs is definitely uplifting and creates a more productive team.
Depending on the size of the site, some ground validation may need to be in place. This allows the survey drone to continue producing a very high level. You may need to lay just 1 ground validation point on the entire job site as opposed to 5 to 8 GCPs.
You Hate Remembering The Kanji (RTK) — Now What?
Another situation in which GCPs carry on applicability is when defending data. Since drone mapping is still a relatively new concept, many contractors want to see its precision and accuracy.
GCPs allow the survey drone to produce a very defensible quality report and really prove the validity of the solution. Technology like this is taking drone mapping to the next level and upping the ante for the industry. It will be interesting to see how all of this will continue to flourish, progress and become even more advanced.
