But with so many options out there, it's not always clear which one is the best. We've tested RTK vs non-RTK drones in different, real-world conditions to help you understand which is the best tool for you. When you fly a non-RTK drone with an onboard GPS receiver or a receiver along with the camera, camera positions are trilaterated from satellites so their positions are identified by several distance measurements. Normally, you can expect an inaccuracy of up to several meters, especially in Z directions, depending on the equipment quality and the satellite geometry.

The camera positions are calculated in real-time, referring to ground references, the locations of which are accurately measured for a long period of time. The calculation helps correct the camera positions up to two to three centimetres of accuracy, both horizontal and vertical. However, things do not always work perfectly. People working on site may encounter interrupted connections which interfere the real-time corrections for camera positions. The system gives float solutions or even gets back to standalone mode.

The camera positions are RTK-float, indicating a big uncertainty around the corrections. The accuracy will again be tens of centimetres for RTK-float, or even up to meters of accuracy as you would get from non-RTK flights.

In this case, you can perform the computation referring the ground reference afterward with a PPK drone. The whole system needs to support the communication with base stations or VRS and to includes post-processing features. It is also crucial to have a compatible image processing software, such as Pix4Dmapper, which takes into account different accuracies of individual camera position.

This article can serve as a prerequisite or a reference for those who are considering whether to buy a new drone or to stay with GCPs. To better investigate the performance, we did two separate flights: one with RTK mode and the other with standalone mode real-time corrections disabled or connection lost during flight over two different types of regions: crop fields and urban areas.

Both RTK flights and standalone flights of the same region followed the same configurations. We used GCPs to adjust the camera positions of standalone-mode flights, and the same set of check points to assess the accuracy of both modes. All projects were processed with Pix4Dmapperusing the default 3D Map template. While flying over a field, we can expect that the connection will not meet too many obstruction.

The result from RTK flight in the field is quite impressive. It gives around one-pixel 2. In standalone mode, we get 3. Once we applied a set of GCPs, the errors in Z greatly decreased. You guys are smart. Just stop doing RTK. Through constant exposure with that kanji. But you will learn them one at a time as you go through J-E sentences, J-J sentences, Native media and beyond.

While going through sentences, you are still learning the meaning and reading of every word that has that kanji. RTK just provides an association technique to make that process much smoother. But without it, you can still do the same thing. Sure, your recall rate, and review speed may be slower.

Since I already had seen most of the kanji in sentences and native exposure, they were easy to remember. And I had the ability to alter and adjust the deck to my liking which ultimately resulted in the Jalup RTK mod deck.

And my kanji ability thanked me for it. As I started up J-J again, I proceeded at a much faster pace, words clicked, I could read with more understanding, and I just finally got kanji. I felt that putting it at the beginning made the most sense. And doing it concurrently with J-E is to prevent kanji burnout.

But who knows?So lately I have been hearing how great the Heisig is and that it is arguably the best method for kanji how would WaniKani compare to Heisig? I did look at couple other threads they were similar but none really answered the question one wanted to do both other one already started Heisig before ect…. And WK provides tools to aid you in remember every single kanji and most of the vocabulary to boot. However, there are lots of resources that you can find online for readings, mnemonics and so on, if you really like.

It turns the WaniKani system on its head, teaching radicals and vocabulary alongside kanji, so you learn everything at once. Heisig is best if you want to focus on writing kanji, and understanding the meanings onlyfocusing on vocabulary and everything else at another time. Kodansha would be best if you want to control your own pace of study, or if you find the WK mnemonics a little silly for your taste. However, mnemonics are only provided for kanji, not vocabulary, which might be a factor for you as well.

Thank you all for answers I was just wondering because online ive seen a lot of flak for wanikani and everyone praising heisig so I was curious. If your goal is to learn random English keywords and not be able to read a single bit of Japanese, then use RTK.

If your goal is to actually learn Japanese, use something else. But you only need to look as far as the opposite pair vocab to see how limited that is. What are people trying to learn Kanji for to begin with? The second offering, is a wild guess on my part.

To earn maximal profit from RTK, you have finish it, not just or something, like WaniKani, because it is not sorted by School Grades.

About how to study, instead of studying just keywords, make sure you know all aspects of Kanji, eventually meaning as in www. Kanji-in-the-wild learning pattern outside WaniKani. Basically, the main difference between the two is when this positional correcting takes place. Additionally, it creates smoother workflows because of that time that is shed. Thus prompts the big question — Which one should you choose? While both technologies are effective, we believe having a survey drone with a PPK attachment is the best route as when deciding between drone solutions that may have one or the other.

Both these technologies are very similar, however, PPK has a decisive advantage — because of its robustness and consistency. Firstly, PPK drones offers more flexibility in terms of the actual flight of the survey drone meaning you have more freedom of how and where the drone is deployed.

In contrast, RTK drones requires a very specific base station and other pieces of equipment that work together in order to process data in real-time. Secondly, a with PPK drone can refer to previous and future data relative to the current flight, which creates greater dependability. Having this ability ensures the drone is always on track with the flight. RTK drone has a higher chance of malfunctioning because it cannot retain old or new data to keep the current flight in check.

You might lose signal a couple times but gain it back quickly. Along with enhancements in time and product, there will also be a change in spirits of the team on the job site. Not having to spend a whole day laying several GCPs is definitely uplifting and creates a more productive team.

Depending on the size of the site, some ground validation may need to be in place. This allows the survey drone to continue producing a very high level. You may need to lay just 1 ground validation point on the entire job site as opposed to 5 to 8 GCPs.

You Hate Remembering The Kanji (RTK) — Now What?

Another situation in which GCPs carry on applicability is when defending data. Since drone mapping is still a relatively new concept, many contractors want to see its precision and accuracy.

GCPs allow the survey drone to produce a very defensible quality report and really prove the validity of the solution. Technology like this is taking drone mapping to the next level and upping the ante for the industry. It will be interesting to see how all of this will continue to flourish, progress and become even more advanced.
